We are proud to share that Danish Support Group Ukraine (DSGU) has successfully wrapped up the "Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) & Non-Technical Survey (NTS)" project in Mykolaiv Oblast, Ukraine. This initiative, funded by the Danish Emergency Relief Fund (DERF), marks a major milestone for DSGU as it is our first venture managing governmental funds – which is a demonstration to our commitment and capability on the ground.

Tough but worthwhile: Managing governmental funding

Handling governmental funds for the first time was both a challenge and a learning curve: From securing the funding to executing the project, we faced our share of hurdles. The administrative procedures, financial reporting, and coordinating with multiple stakeholders The administrative processes, financial reporting, and managing multiple stakeholders were quite demandingcapacity to handle such a large-scale project.

We navigated through everything and delivered the final report along with the financial documentation, demonstrating our ability to manage a project of this scale.

About the project

The core focus of the project was to deliver Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) and conduct Non-Technical Surveys (NTS) to assess and map land contaminated by mines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) in Mykolaiv Oblast. The project aimed to mitigate the risks posed by explosive remnants of war, protecting civilians – and especially vulnerable groups like women, children, and the elderly - who are disproportionately affected by such threats.

Despite the challenges, we surpassed our targets, reaching more than 13,000 beneficiaries through EORE sessions and completing 22 NTS operations across key areas. This project significantly contributed to the safety of local communities and helped authorities prioritize areas for demining efforts.

Strengthening DSGU for future projects

The project’s magnitude pushed us to our limits, but it also provided invaluable insights. To better position ourselves for future interventions, we have expanded our board and strengthened our organizational capacity. With a more robust structure in place, we are ready to take on even more ambitious projects.

As we look forward, DSGU remains committed to supporting Ukraine’s recovery and providing humanitarian assistance where it’s most needed.

Thank you to our partners and DERF for making this project possible 💙💛
