Demining:
Restoring Safety
in Ukraine

In the wake of ongoing conflict in Ukraine, large amounts of unexploded ammunition have been left behind — both intentionally and unintentionally. Alarmingly, up to 30% of all fired ammunition fails to detonate as intended, leaving behind a deadly legacy.
These unexploded ordnances (UXO), landmines, booby traps, and decoys pose a serious risk to civilians — especially children — who are returning to their homes and communities. Already, numerous injuries have been reported due to remnants left behind by Russian forces.

The map on the right highlights areas where fighting has occurred. In each of these zones, demining is a critical first step in restoring safety and allowing daily life to resume.

the Danish Support Group Ukraine (DSGU) has launched a long-term demining program. Given the scale of the ammunition used, this work is expected to continue for years to come — and is essential for rebuilding secure, livable communities.
